Link partners

Find websites in your niche and exchange links with their owners to improve SEO, build authority, and drive mutual traffic through strategic partnerships.

Link partnerships are collaborative arrangements between website owners who agree to exchange links in their content. When two sites in related niches link to each other, both benefit from improved search engine optimization (SEO), increased referral traffic, and stronger domain authority.

WebGPT's Link Partners feature streamlines this entire process. Instead of manually reaching out to website owners, negotiating terms, and tracking partnerships via email or spreadsheets, you can discover partners, send requests, exchange articles, and manage everything from a single interface.

Why link partnerships matter
Search engines like Google use links as one of the key signals for determining a website's authority and relevance. Links from other reputable, topically related websites tell search engines that your content is trustworthy. A well-executed link partnership strategy can significantly improve your search rankings over time.

The two tabs

The Link Partners page is organized into two main tabs, each handling a different aspect of the partnership workflow.

Browse Partners

The Browse Partners tab is your starting point for discovering new partnership opportunities. Here you can explore websites from other WebGPT users who have made their sites available for link partnerships.

Discovering partners

Browse a directory of available partner websites, each showing key details like domain name, categories, and language. View detailed information about each website before deciding to reach out.

Sending partnership requests

When you find a website that looks like a good fit for a link partnership, you can send a partnership request directly from the Browse Partners tab. The website owner will receive your request and can choose to accept or decline.

Tip
Focus on websites that are topically related to yours. A link from a website in a completely unrelated niche provides much less SEO value than one from a site that covers similar topics. Quality and relevance matter more than quantity.

My Partnerships

The My Partnerships tab is your command center for managing all your active and past partnerships. It provides a comprehensive view of every partnership you are involved in, whether you initiated it or received the request.

Managing active partnerships

For each partnership, you can:

  • View the current status and progress
  • Communicate with your partner about content details
  • Track which articles have been submitted and approved
  • See the complete history of the partnership from request to completion

Reviewing partner articles

When a partner submits an article for your site, a review banner appears directly on the partnership card. This gives you full editorial control over what content appears on your website, right from the same place where you manage the partnership. You can:

  • Read the full article — Review the content for quality, accuracy, and relevance
  • Check the links — Verify that the links are appropriate and point to the right pages
  • Approve or reject — Approve articles that meet your standards, or reject those that need revision

Partnership cards that have articles waiting for your review are highlighted so you can easily spot them. An actions needed badge on the tab also shows how many partnerships require your attention, including pending responses, article reviews, and unfulfilled obligations.

Always review carefully
You are responsible for the content published on your website. Always read through partner-submitted articles thoroughly before approving them. Check for accuracy, quality, tone, and make sure the links are relevant and appropriate for your audience.

Partnership workflow

Here is the complete step-by-step process for establishing and completing a link partnership:

  1. Browse and find relevant partner sites
Use the Browse Partners tab to discover websites in your niche. Use the category and language filters to narrow down potential partners. Look for sites with quality content and audiences that align with yours.
  2. Send a partnership request
When you find a promising partner, send them a partnership request. Include relevant information about your website so the other party can evaluate whether the partnership is a good fit for them as well.
  3. Wait for acceptance
The partner reviews your request and decides whether to accept or reject it. You can track the status of your pending requests in the My Partnerships tab.
  4. Submit articles with mutual links
Once both parties accept the partnership, you can submit articles that include links to each other's websites. These articles are the "exchange" part of the link partnership — each party provides valuable content to the other's site with embedded links.
  5. Review and approve partner's articles
When your partner submits an article for your site, a review banner appears on the partnership card. Click the review button, read the article carefully, and approve it if it meets your quality standards.
  6. Articles published with mutual links
Once approved, the articles are published on the respective websites with the agreed-upon links. Both parties benefit from the new content and the link exchange.

Status tracking

Every partnership goes through a clear lifecycle, and you can track its progress at every stage:

  • Pending — The partnership request has been sent and is waiting for a response. No action can be taken until the other party responds.
  • Accepted — Both parties have agreed to the partnership. Articles can now be submitted for review. This is the active working phase of the partnership.
  • Rejected — The partnership request was declined by one party. No further action is needed. You can still send requests to other websites.
  • Completed — The link exchange has been fulfilled. Both parties have submitted and approved articles, and the links are live on both websites.

Messaging within partnerships

Communication is key to a successful partnership. The Link Partners feature includes built-in messaging that lets you communicate directly with your partners without leaving the WebGPT platform. Use messaging to:

  • Discuss content topics and article ideas before writing
  • Clarify requirements or preferences for the articles
  • Provide feedback on submitted articles that need revisions
  • Coordinate timing for article publication

Once articles are published and a partnership is active or completed, WebGPT automatically monitors the published articles daily to ensure the agreed backlinks remain in place.

How monitoring works

Every day, the system checks each published partnership article to verify that backlinks are still present. If a backlink is missing, a three-step enforcement process begins:

  1. Day 1 — Violation detected
The missing backlink is recorded. No action is taken yet — this accounts for temporary issues like site maintenance.
  2. Day 2 — Warning issued
If the backlink is still missing, the violation is escalated.
  3. Day 3 — Articles set to draft
The counterpart articles (articles the violating partner received on your sites) are automatically set to draft.

Automatic reversal

If the missing backlink is restored, the system detects the fix during the next daily check and automatically republishes the drafted articles. No manual intervention is needed.

Why backlink monitoring matters
Link partnerships are built on mutual trust. Without monitoring, a partner could remove your backlink after publication while still benefiting from yours. Automated monitoring ensures fairness by enforcing compliance on both sides equally.

Tips and best practices

Choosing the right partners

  • Target similar niches — The best link partnerships are between websites that cover related topics. A link from a relevant site carries significantly more SEO value than one from an unrelated site.
  • Assess content quality — Before sending a request, visit the potential partner's website and evaluate the quality of their content. Partnering with high-quality sites reflects well on your own site.
  • Consider audience overlap — The ideal partner has an audience that would genuinely be interested in your content. This means the link exchange drives real traffic, not just SEO signals.

Creating great partner content

  • Write high-quality articles — Treat partner articles with the same care as content for your own site. High-quality articles are more likely to be approved and create a positive impression.
  • Make links natural — Embed links naturally within the content rather than forcing them in. Links that flow naturally with the text provide better user experience and SEO value.
  • Match the partner's tone — Try to write content that fits the style and tone of the partner's website. This increases the chances of approval and makes the article more valuable to their audience.

Managing partnerships effectively

  • Respond promptly — When you receive partnership requests or article submissions, respond in a timely manner. Quick responses build trust and lead to better working relationships.
  • Be selective — It is better to have a few high-quality partnerships than many low-quality ones. Focus on partners that genuinely align with your niche and quality standards.
  • Review articles thoroughly — Never auto-approve partner articles. Take the time to read every submission to ensure it meets your site's quality standards and is appropriate for your audience.
Long-term strategy
Link partnerships work best as a long-term strategy. Building a network of quality partners over time creates a web of mutual links that steadily improves SEO for everyone involved. Be patient and focus on quality over quantity.
